Description
This song brings to mind the angst that is so commonly felt by artists, musicians and creative people, and which led to thje suicides of both Kurt Cobain and Elliott Smith, whom the song mentions by last name. Its instantly catchy guitar riff is complemented by a polyrhythmic motiff on the keyboard, adding a little uneasiness to the smoothness of the composition.

The track could be used whenever a character (probably a youngish boy, but possibly a goth-y girl) is feeling frustrated by life and is considering suicide, crime, drugs, or nefarious doings. It is a dark song, one that glorifies the pain of the creative process. It's a "nobody understands me" song, which sucks you into its rock vortex and makes your heart beat harder even though it is slow in tempo. But it's full of the angst that I grew up with as a sufferer of bipolar disorder, an artist, a musician and a writer.

It's about fighting one's demons - the ones that can kill if not properly treated. It's about turning those demons into your art and making it so much more powerful by doing so. So many kids grow up with the beautiful pain. So many artists understand it. It's obviously an oxymoron, but one that holds true. You've got to love your pain.
